Work is underway to provide a permanent crossing point on Burt’s Hill, Wimborne.
A Zebra Crossing will support a safer, better walking experience for children and parents who are walking and scooting to Wimborne First School.
It is also hoped that by providing a safer crossing point, more children and parents will walk to school and help reduce traffic congestion in the area.
Proposals
Wimborne Minster Town Council requested the placement of a crossing at the new Wimborne First School to provide a safe crossing point for the community.
A temporary school crossing patrol has been in operation while waiting for a permanent controlled crossing to be provided. The Zebra Crossing will replace the SCP.
The scheme will:
- Install a Zebra Crossing on Burt’s Hill near its junction with Allenview Road
- Widen the footway on the northern side of Burt’s Hill
- Tighten up the mouth of the junction to slow vehicle movements
Burt's Hill Zebra Crossing scheme design proposal
As part of the scheme, statutory consultation will take place on the Traffic Regulation Order to:
- Revoke the school keep clear restrictions along Burt’s Hill, Wimborne, outside Wimborne First School.
- Add a length of No Waiting at any time restrictions on the northern side of Burt’s Hill, to the east of the proposed Zebra Crossing
These changes to road markings will ensure the safe visibility of the crossing and its users.
Construction
Subject to necessary approvals, we aim to install the Zebra Crossing during the school summer holidays 2025.
