Work is underway to provide a permanent crossing point on Burt’s Hill, Wimborne.
A Zebra Crossing will support a safer, better walking experience for children and parents who are walking and scooting to Wimborne First School.
It is also hoped that by providing a safer crossing point, more children and parents will walk to school and help reduce traffic congestion in the area.
Proposals
Wimborne Minster Town Council requested the placement of a crossing at the new Wimborne First School to provide a safe crossing point for the community.
A temporary school crossing patrol has been in operation while waiting for a permanent controlled crossing to be provided. The Zebra Crossing will replace the SCP.
The scheme will:
- Install a Zebra Crossing on Burt’s Hill near its junction with Allenview Road
- Widen the footway on the northern side of Burt’s Hill
- Tighten up the mouth of the junction to slow vehicle movements

Construction
The legal notices required for the scheme have been approved and the zebra crossing will be installed during the 2025 summer holidays.
Work to build the zebra crossing, with associated kerbing and drainage works, will start on Monday 4 August and take four weeks to complete.
To ensure a safe working environment for our construction operatives, a section of Burt’s Hill will be closed (between Giddylake and Allenview Road) and two-way temporary traffic signals will be used to control traffic on Burt’s Hill and Allenview Road.
The crossing will be in place for the start of the new academic year and will replace the school crossing patrol.
